"THE DEVOTION OF SUSPECT X" is a Naoki prize winning novel by Keigo Higashimo, who's known as 'The Japanese Stieg Larsson'. It is the first in the series of a set of novels called "The Detective Galileo".
This story is unique to the usual murder mysteries in two ways
i. It's not a typical whodunit story. The identity of the killer is not hidden.
ii. You'll find yourself rooting for the killer.
That said, the story starts with a tragedy. Yasuko kills her ex-husband. A neighbour decides to help her conceal the murder and cleverly misleads the detectives. The rest of the story deals with the dialogue of police inquiry. Finally, The Detective Galileo unravels the truth. Be prepared for a mind blowing killer twist in the end. It is a sad but captivating read.
The Tamil film Kolaigaran starring Vijay Antony is an adaptation of this novel.
